Theory Test
Learner drivers have to pass a theory test before they can take the practical driving test. The test comprises a multiple choice test and a hazard perception test. Both parts must be passed at the same time.
Booking the test
Book your test online, or by phone (0300 200 1122), using a credit or debit card. Alternatively, get a postal application form from your driving instructor, or local driving test center. The fee is £30.00 (from 01 April 2008)
Multiple choice
This part of the test consists of 50 questions. You must score at least 43 to pass (from 03 September 2007). Try one of our theory tests right now: test one or test two.
Hazard perception
More detailed information here. You will be shown 14 video clips for this part of the test. You must click the computer's mouse button when you think you see a developing hazard.
Test centre locations
There are theory test centres in most large towns or cities. These are usually at a different place from practical driving test centres. Basingstoke's theory test centre is at:
The Square (part Ground Floor), Basing View, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 4EB
Here is a map.
Some directions: at the Eastrop roundabout (the "Bus Station" roundabout in the centre of Basingstoke with traffic lights) , take the road towards Basing View, past the "Castle" public house. Go ahead at the mini roundabout, and "The Square" is the third building on your right.
